The Life of Andy Warhol
In the 1950s, long before today’s social media influencers, there lived a highly influential visual artist named Andy Warhol.
Born in 1928 in Pittsburgh, Warhol first worked as an illustrator and then became an icon of the pop art, or popular art, genre.
Pop art removed the boundaries between fine art masterpiece paintings and commercial art.
Pop art paintings showed things such as advertisements, product packages, and other common objects from our daily lives.
In this manner, Warhol famously created 32 paintings of Campbell’s Soup cans, one for each flavor of soup.
The images look just like the real soup cans sold at supermarkets.
Warhol also made movies about our ordinary world, including a 6-hour film of a man sleeping.
Andy Warhol died in 1987.
But his influence continues, through his art and his statement that “in the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.”
